Hello 8th graders!
This post will give you directions on the Career Research Project. The project has five phases to it.
Phase I - You need to register with College in Colorado and set up a profile. List Ms. Cole as your school counselor. Once you've set up your profile, go to the Career Center and complete the "My Interest Finder" survey. When you get your results, notify Ms. Cole so she can print them for you.
Phase II - Now that you've completed the Interest Survey, it's time to start researching possible careers. At the bottom of your Interest Survey results is a link, "find careers that match my interests". Follow that link to begin researching your career options. As you do your research complete Worksheet 1 (see Ms. Cole for a copy). When you have completed your worksheet return it to Ms. Cole.
Phase III - Using your research from Phase II, Ms. Cole will assign you a job and an annual salary. Now it's up to you to create a monthly budget. For this phase you will be calculating your gross and net income and your monthly expenses, including the purchase of a home and a car. You will complete Worksheet 2 for this phase. Go to www.cars.com to find an automobile and www.century21.com to find a home.
Phase IV - In this part of the project you will create a PowerPoint presentation of all the research you completed in Phases II and III. Your PowerPoint must follow the rubric. See Ms. Cole for a copy of the rubric. When you have completed your presentation, have Ms. Cole save it for you.
Phase V - Here's your opportunity to reflect on your learning during the entire project. See Ms. Cole for Worksheet 3.
